...that this guy is bidding on his own car?

Right, almost a week ago I spotted the following car on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4611884181&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

At first I wasn't keen on what he'd done to it, but then it started to grow on me so I took more interest in it and added it to my watch list and requested more pictures.

So he sent me some pictures of the car. It looks quite tidy apart from the stupid spoiler on the rear and the tinted rear windows, oh and the seat covers. I then asked for a picture of the nearside of the car to be taken but he came up with an excuse saying that he was **** with computers and that his girlfriend who got the pictures onto the PC has gone on holiday, (how convenient).

He assures me that there is nothing wrong with the car. OK I think, I'll wait till the last minute and stick a bid in. But only today I noticed something a little odd.

I checked the bidding history and the same person has bidded on it 4 times. OK fair enough, nothing dodgy about that since he's probably looking to find out the reserve of the car. But isn't it a little strange that he bids only in £100 increments? Surely if you where trying to find out the reserve you'd bid in smaller increments? For example, £450 to £475, £500 and then maybe £550?

This isn't the only thing that I noticed. This may just be a coincidence but the email I received was from someone called "Paul Hicks"...now if you look at the person who is bidding on the item you'll see that he's called "Truckerhicks".

Am I just being silly?

The guy sounds a bit chav and the car looks it slightly, his girlfriends e-mail address is burberryprincess something or other at hotmail.com. OK that doesn't mean that they're chavs but it all fits together for me.

Is it possible to find out the email address of the person bidding on it?

I've found another car anyway, so i'm not bothered if I let this one go so if i'm wrong im not too bothered.

EDIT: He's using his girlfriends ebay account to sell his car (wennipoo), and the email I got from this Paul hicks was also sent to this burberryprincess with the display name "Wenna" which is almost the same as the sellers ID.

It just looks like trucker hicks is either stupid and outbidding himself or he was bidding up to meet the reserve

Its hardly crime of the century!

If you are interested in the car, speak to them and deal privately. If you arent, just forget about it!

Personally, I wouldnt dream of buying from someone using "burberryprincess" as an email address, even if it were their girlfriends.

Unless its really that rare, look elsewhere. You cant chance things at that milage. Either that or go look at it in person and offer to buy there and then. I wouldnt buy just because the best buys on ebay are not from this kind of seller, genuine means a lot to me personally

Oh and maybe an unpiad strike, which means that if you get 3+ unpiad strikes(1 for each item you fail to pay for) you might lose that account, but starting another would be easy enough.

you can search for members using email addresses. It won't tell you the username, but it will tell you if they have and account and what feedback it has. so maybe you can find a match with that guys email address.

also try sending a message though ebay to Truckerhicks, asking when it would be convenient to collect the car. he may slip up and answer it.

Cheers.

"The email address [email protected] is used by a valid eBay member with a feedback score of 31 (94.3% positive). We have not found a transaction between you and this member in the last 60 days. Seems I was right.

What should I do?

Don't bother complaining to ebay. it has to be really blatent for them to do anything about it. I think you should just call him on it. no need to be aggressive about it. just say you know it was him bidding and that you don't want the car now.
unless you do want the car, then offer a lower amount, and complain that he artificially inflated the price above what it would otherwise have gotten to. afterall there was no one else bidding on it.

I just tried that and ebay says I can't message him because I have 0 feedback.

By the way, I still don't have a photo of the left side of the car. If I travel all the way to pick up this car and find something wrong with that side of the car i'm going to go spastic lol.
