sorry if this has been asked before
I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 8 for the £25 using the upgrade assistant got the new key and burned iso to disc
fresh install 2-3 weeks - i hate it (metro blrrrr + its using more vram )
any who's can i go back to windows 7 using the original activation code
don't want to reinstall and find i can't
thank you for any help

How long have you tried it for? I'm beginning to like it now. Although quirky.. some of the things I do are so much quicker with it. (I HATED it initially and thought i'd made a massive mistake).

Other than that... you would just have to reinstall windows 7. They don't deactivate the win 7 key. You can try for a refund btw....

Ring them and tell them your reformatting from win 8 and your key isnt working?

When i went back to win 7 i never had a problem like this though.

I'd vote give 8 another shot. I dont understand why its using more vram? but i think its at least 50% quicker than 7. I love it.

Windows 8 is awesome, very fast & a great interface once you get used to it. Shortcuts are your key to everything! I'd recommend giving it a few more weeks to get to grips, go through a tutorial, that's what I did and I love it.

Thanks for the input, i've created shortcuts for everything using oblytile and the start screen does look nice but i just don't like it. it feels like a mobile phone. So can i got back to windows 7 or will the key not work

The key will work. Worst case is a 5 minute automated phone call. Or if you are really lucky, a 5 minute chat to a gentleman in Delhi :)

Thankyou, what a relief, i've used the windows activation number before only takes a few minutes because i upgrade a lot, i like a clean install on the latest drivers.

I read somewhere that the upgrade only checks to see if you have a 'Windows' folder on your hard drive before its starts installing (presuming you are doing a clean install as when you get past this step it gives you the option to format disk) so if you revert back to windows 7 then the key will work fine.

The only issue I can see it that its probably agains the EULA.

Personally (on a moral level) I dont see anything wrong with it as you have already paid for windows 7 and windows 8 upgrade

I bought windows 7 Home from overclockers
I used upgrade assistant to get windows 8
I only do clean installs (windows disc in and delete everything on drive)
my concern was that the windows 7 code would be deactivated because of the upgrade

I can confirm the windows 7 key still works after using the windows 8 upgrade assistant just reformatted and it activated online immediately.
no more windows 8, happy now.
thanks all for the helpful info

You shoulda stuck it out a bit longer mate.

I initially hated Windows 8. Couldn't stand it. Been using it both at work and home now for a while and I love it.
