Should i look at maybe another cpu??
I play eq2, Lord of the Rings Online, EVE, and will play Warhammer online when released.

all @ 1680 x 1050

2 things missing O/S , not sure what version of 64bit Vista, and Am still waiting to see what the new ATI cards are like or affect the 3870 prices.

Once ive built it today ill have the same motherboard, cpu, heatsink + amount of ram as you do, only problem is i dont have any of the same games as you (albeit the CPU is a temp one and so is the graphics card - a 6600 :|)

Will you be overclocking i think is the key question here?
 
CPU should be good enough once it's clocked 3Ghz or more. Don't expect wonders at stock speed, I had a E2160 1.8Ghz @ 3.2Ghz and am now on a E4400 2.0Ghz @ 3.4Ghz and at stock these processors just don't really cut it. When clocked past 3.0Ghz they are really nice.

So indeed the question is, will you be overclocking. To get those processors to 3.0Ghz minimal effort will be needed...
 
replace that maxtor drive with a 500gb samsung F1. They're meant to be fantastic, and Maxtor's record is dodgy to say the least.

Is there any particular reason for choosing a P45 motherboard? They might turn out to be great (read as probably will) but at the moment I don't see any particularly compelling reasons to pay about double what you would for a good P35 motherboard. The reason I'm checking is that you seem to be on a somewhat limited budget and that could free up some cash for upgrades in other areas.
 
I'll echo Semi-Pro: you may as well opt for a P35 board and save some money.

The 2180 is a fine CPU and should hit 3GHz with ease. If you save money on the motherboard you might consider swapping the 2180 out for a Q6600.:)
 
I think this will have to last me , a fair number of years , so thought that if i get a good motherboard, then i could add to it each few months, ie 2nd crossfire card, quad cpu as prices fall , more memory etc etc.

just have limit funds for the next 3 months, and have been puting it off awaiting the release of the 4800 ati range for some time.

The new Maxtors are re-branded Seagates and as such I find it hard not to recommend them.

Because the samsung F1 is the best 500gb drive out at the moment, and is the same price.

Fair enough... I was going to argue that the Maxtors had a 5-year warranty - I'm sure mine did when I bought it, but it looks like they've dropped it to 3 for some reason.

im surprised they even give it that long, maxtors have a habit of dieing within 2 :p
 
thanks for the info, after reading all the info here and on www, about new ati 4850 in cross fire, should a save till next month and look at the X38 boards again.?? or stick with a P45 , prices are very close, damn i dont know!!!!!!!
