Just installed a x2 3800 i bought months ago but never installed, it says 2 cores in cpuz, in task manager shows 2 cores etc, but i jus ran super pi and it was only 50% cpu usage in task manager, and in cpu usage history only 1 of the cores showed high activity, how come its not using both cores?

do i need to do something to get windows to use both cores?

thanks

Superpi is single threaded. I believe if you Google around you'll find a new version of Superpi that properly supports multi threading.

ahhh ok thanks

just that i was searching around to see what kinda clocks people got with 3800 and read this thread so wanted to see what i got with superpi, but nobody mentioned it was single core anyway so the fact the guy has x2 doesnt matter :p

If task manager looks like this, then everything is working ok. Because pi uses 50% TOTAL that shows it is working, if you set it to one core only it'll run at 100% of one core, but take the same amount of time, but your computer will be sluggish. If you can use a pi prog to use 100% of each core (100% + 100%) then it'll do the calculation twice as quick, but system will be sluggish.
