AM2 5200 any good?

thank you all...

..it is for a new rig and I have thought of going towards C2D but... I find it a bit pricey!!

U see I am not new to the world of ocing and generally to the custom setup... and If I go towards intel... I wont setle for anything less than a 680mobo. Striker or EVGA or something in that range..
on top of that put the 6600 and some 8500mem... and the cost skyrockets.

so i thought:
Asus Crosshair for 149Euro
Am2 5200 for 220 and Team extreme ddr800 for another 220
total of 600Euro, around 400£

for that amount of money I barely scratch a proper Intel Rig

but tnx for all the info..
anything above 2.8 will keep me happy

sitting on a 2.4 939 rig now

if you can find me something for that amount of money then please do..
.. any help would be appreciated

later all and tnx

I was justg checking:

Asus P5N-E sli 650i for 149E
6400 for 209E
and mems stay the same

so again same total...

so which way to go..?
what do you think is better..?

yeah... exactly my point...

that is my opinion as well..

I won't let me prejudice stand in the way of doing the right thing ;)

so overall.. 650i+6400 better than 590+5200

hmm!!!

between these two, intel wins in everything but with a very small margin..

5-6 frames in games,
less than 1000points in arithmetic cpu bench in sandra,
and about 30seconds in xvid encoding

I guess though if you put the oc headroom of C2D u have a clear winner

mmm... have a few other thought on the back of my mind.. but perhaps later

Jaykay... exactly what it was on my mind
the so called AM2+

that s what I am thinking... a good am2 mobo and afterwards a simple bios update..?

or an intel pack that kicks ass now.. and who knows what next...

still confused.. :S

u see 650i doesnt really like any mems over 800 so 1066 on 1:1 its not supported... until from what I have read so far...

and again am2 only supports 800mems

cpu limited in one case, mbo limited on the other

still confused :S

damn it!!

really dont know what I'll do...
still have 2 weeks to make up my mind..

one thing is for sure... 8800GTX its on its way :D

later all

true.. and to be honest it wont be for a long time untl I SLi my GTX
so 1x16 will be more than enough.

What I believe IS worth spending the extra cash is getting some 8500 memory... cause it is the only thing that will last for almost forever.

I mean motherboard u can always play about... and change now and then..
same with the cpu.. but mem.. u keep.

I am thinking for the ocz 8500 sli, together with a apogee waterblock, cause the one i currentyl have wont fit an intel mobo... total cost 200£
another 200 ~ 250 for mobo/cpu and I am sorted.

650i and 6400 sound really appealing price wise...
Just hope not to regret it

anyways.. thank you all... u 've been great ;)
keep it up
