AM2 any real performance increase

Socket AM2 does it offer any real performance benifit.

I currently have an operton 144 and havent had chance to use it yet (tested it in my mates asus board and is stable at 2.9Ghz without any major effort) should i get the new DFI board skt 939 crossfire or sell the opteron and get a new am2 chip and board for crossfire??

not massively bothered about future upgradability. Just how am2 performs currently.

If anyone could point me in the direction of a good review on am2 performance it would be highly appreiciated (no competitors obviously)

cheers for the advice guys conroe definately looks nice but im just not sure i can wait or afford the predicted price premium that will be on it when its comes out.

systems not crap yet lol see sig give it a couple of months though.

im still not holding out for vista and DX10 as they keep moving the date back and current build ie 5308 are slow and laggy. Its been said that it still needs lots of work.

personally i think vista inc dx10 wont properly take off until about 4/5 months after its launch and thats at the absolute earliest.

Im really hoping that AMD wint sit there and do nothing about conroe but as has been said before there doesnt appear to be anything amazing coming from thier roadmaps. Well nothing that appears to be able to rival conroe anyway.

Im seeing a massive role reversal coming with AMD taking the back seat and intel becoming the processor of choice in gaming rigs for probably about 2years+ untill AMD pull out the stops and bring out something that will put them in the lead again. However i really cant see this happening untill we get a completely new AMD architecture such as the rumored K10.

Would we have conroe if AMD hadnt produced K8 to beat down the Netburst P4\Xeon? Its in our interests for AMD to come up with a solution that rivals Conroe (competition, price drops, tech advances etc), although that may not happen for 6-12 months yet.

Couldnt agree more, I heard just recently that a couple of chinese companies were begining to make good processors. Competition in the market is always best for consumers look at the gfx performance leaps over the past 12 months.
