AM2 Coolers suitable for AM2+ socket type

I've noticed the Extreme has the AM2+ specified as a socket type. Does this mean AM2 coolers are not suitable for AM2+ socket types?

The AM2 version will work fine, running Arctic 64 Pro on my Phenom no bother.

AM2+ is just different board and CPU features like HT3 I think, the socket is is compatible with AM2 CPUs therefore its the same size, so AM2 coolers should work.

AM2+ is just the newer mobos
The socket itself & brackets are the same
