New to the forum, but hi everyone.

I'm sure everyone is aware of the up and coming cpu's from amd and intel? What i would like to know is you opinions on whether we should wait or not?

Here are some details i've picked up around on the net: (correct me if i'm wrong ;) )

AM2:

New socket - incompatiable with current 939 socket - new mobo required then and cooling etc...
Uses DDR2 memory - doesn't really offer much because of the high latency's offered by DDR2 800mhz and no improvement on lower frequency chips.

Conroe:

New socket - what's net intel change there socket every 6 months at the moment
Offers 20% increase on floating point calc than current best processor from AMD FX60?

I have always been an AMD since i bought my first AMD K6-2 450 i'm sure there are pepole who were before that - but im only 21 ;)

My point is that although the reaction to conroe is that it is a breakthrough, (in the sense that a processor has not been brought out for so long that actually increase's performance so much) has it not still got the problem using the external bus between the 2 cores? will we not still have the bottleneck? what are the real performance differences between conroe and AM2?

Anyone any ideas? or info?

No sli but what about crossfire? Games demand more and more from the GPU these days surely tihs will have an affect on gamer enthusiasts?

What about all the pepole who already have SLI? or crossfire? cards
