Tbh you're wasting your time on here if you ask for AMD advice without expecting to be shouted down by people urging you to buy C2D

Its for a budget £500 pc including Case, 19" flatscreen the full works, i havnt got money to spend on the top of the range (at present) CPU that costs £100 and eats away at my budget.

Something like the above? Bit overbudget but ditch the 7300gt if the onboard graphics will do for you. But really for this price some cunning person may be able to spec up a c2d for you, I'm not sure. Oh, and assumed you already had keyboard/mouse.

You can go Conroe for the price, it doesn't include a discrete graphics card but if you add one it will cost almost exactly the same as that by PeteLucky7.

Better than mine tbh. If you need a gfx card in the cheapo price range can still recommend the 7300gt, as long as you get the ddr3 version, £58 inc, I thinl.

Trouble is its not going to need a conroe, the AM2 will be more than enough. Id rather spend the extra money on componants that i need to be higher

Ditch the dual core idea then and go for a 3000, 3200, 3500 or 3800, whichever is better vfm and spend the extra on more HD space, RAM, whatever you want. You can always upgrade the CPU later. Also if you can manage with the on-board gfx you can always ditch the 7300gt for a cheaper system or again, spend the £ on bigger hd etc.

There are some real bargains to be found if you go down the AM2 route. If you look around the prices for AM2 cpu's are very cheap and the same goes for the motherboards. DDR2 seems to be cheaper than DDR at the moment and you will also be able to reuse it for a future build. I am going to build myself a little rig just for internet stuff and letter writing etc so that i can free up performance on my main rig (take all AV/anti spyware/firewall programs off, strip windows down to the bare minimum and have as few processes running as possible, it will not be connected to the net). This will be based around AM2 and the whole pc will only cost £180. Thats everything, case, psu, hdd's, 18x DVDRW, cpu, memory, motherboard, floppy. Thats all brand new from an online retailer. Bargain!!

If all you need is to go for a general office/multimedia PC then anything from about 1.5ghz upwards with 512mb Ram would do you fine, you could pick one up secondhand for £150 or less then add on a 19" tft and you have still only spent about half of your budget. It won't be massively upgradable but it will be easily sufficient for the tasks required. :)
