Just a quick question. I have no clue what socket AM2+ is. I have a AM2 mobo so does that mean a AM2+ CPU will fit in it?

Fed up with all the socket switching that AMD is doing.

Its all down to Bios Support really, as above check your motherboard manufactures CPU Support list for your board, chances are whichever CPU you decide to upgrade to a Bios upgrade will be required.

Wasn't looking at Phenoms. Was looking at this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-246-AM&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=803
Slight chance of working lol? I really want a CPU upgrade since I finally have money this summer..........

Its based on an Original Phenom I'm afraid so its not going to work. Which CPU are you using in it at mo?

I'm afraid I think the only CPU which OCUK currently sell which your board supports is this:

Unless you want to consider a second hand chip of course.

Other than that there is always option of upgrading the board... if you have got enough money this summer for that :)

I have a X2 4600+ which is slightly overclocked to 2.5. So I guess the X2 5400+ isn't going to make much of a difference.
Can't really get a new board unless everything I have at the moment can be transplanted.
Specs here for you:
2 SATA HD's
1 DVD IDE
260GTX
DDR2 RAM PC-6400 4GB 2x2GB
PSU HEC 550W

Ta for replies btw, sry for any mistakes, had beer recently.....

You would have no problem using all that in a new motherboard.

Something like the Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 £60.98 from OCUK would be ideal. I would advise going for the Phenom II X2 550 over the 7850 as its a faster and cooler running CPU. Also providing the motherboard is Rev 2 (might be worth checking with Overclockers about that) you might be able to unlock it to a Quad Core CPU :) . That's what I did with mine (See Sig). This does require some luck though, not every CPU unlocks so its a bit of a lottery.

I don't have the money for a CPU and a decent mobo at the moment but will definately look into that in a couple of weeks.

Whats the overclocking potential for the Phenoms?
