AM3+Athlon2 setup: ditch it all or go 1090T?

Currently sitting here with an Athlon-II X3 435 in a Gigabyte MA785-GMT-UD2H board.

I figure my choices are to switch to a 2500K setup (expensive), or put a Phenom II in it instead.

It's primary for gaming and web browsing. No encoding or other highly threaded stuff.

So, purely from a gaming standpoint, would you drop a Phenom II X4 or X6 in there? Or would you save up the extra cash and go i5?

I was never planning to go Faildozer, and I'm not going to bother waiting for Piledriver after seeing BD's painful birth. If I go Intel will be the first time I've not had an AMD chip for well over a decade....

Personally I'd get the 1090T with a good cooler, it should do you nicely for a good while yet, and you can think about a full system upgrade further in the future.

If I were you, with xmas fast approaching, I'd sell the x3 and put in a multi-unlocked 1090T. You could even get a 1055T if your motherboard and ram are decent overclockers on a fixed multi, but I'd prefer the freedom of an unlocked chip.

It's plenty fast for any game and should satisfy your upgrade itch, then you can start saving for an Intel Ivybridge next year. That 1090T will hold its value well too when you're ready to upgrade.

As mentioned above; all depends on money of course.
