I'm looking at getting a phenom II 955 and I'm having a hard time deciding what board to go for (as well as the ram).

If I don't need on-board graphics or sound and I'm not really bothered about sli/crossfire and I probably won't be overclocking it too much (not looking to try and hit 4ghz or anything) is there any point going for the msi or asus crosshair?

Will I miss out on anything by going for a cheaper asus/gigabyte board?

I'm in a very similar boat; currently looking at getting myself the Gigabyte UD4P, but don't have any need for any "uber" features, so if there's a cheaper board that will allow for some mid-range overclocking then I'm all ears!

For your needs i can't imagine so. Anything with a 770 chipset would be fine, but since the 785 boards are actually cheaper at the minute you'd be a fool not to go for one of those.

The ud4p giga board would be good enough. As Superewza said though, take a look at the new lot of 785 boards that have come out.
