Hi all im putting a new rig together in the next couple of wweks and was looking for a decent board.

The machine will be for gaming with 1 5770 at the moment but may crossfire in future so would like an additional slot for this.

Would also like to overclock. But new to all this so if the mobo has any features like that it would be easier

Budget is £100

I was looking at this

Asus M4A79XTD Evo (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard [90-MIBAJ0-G0EAY00Z]

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-366-AS

Thanks

Martyn

I got one mate i run a x4 620 on it. overclocks it fine gets my 620 to 3.7ghz there is about 5 bios for it so far nice normal board for £80 spacing is good for xfire

£83.98 inc

Looks like a lovely board! :D

Thinking of getting the 965 so hope it OC well with the board :)
Don't do it, there are plenty of cheaper but capable AM3 chips, the 965 is really expensive, more expensive than an Intel Core i5 750 . . .

Save you money and look into a cheaper Phenom II or Athlon II, there will be a new socket AM3 chip out next year that will make the 965 look puny! :p

Moral of the story is: Don't spend big bucks on a high end AMD system uless you are a die-hard AMD fanboy . . .

Im not a die hard fan.Just want a good cpu. That why i was looking at the new stepping for its power saving.I believe a 95 W 955 is due in Q1 but i cant wait that long :(

The 965 is quite cheap on some other sites.Ill say no more as i dont want to mention pricing and get in trouble :)

oh one bad thing i do have to say about the board and i have found one other user with it is that is does not report the correct voltages in cpuz or HW monitor but it will report correct with asus probe 2 very odd and so small niggle.

yeah, voltage reporting seems to be kind of random. cpuz seems to sometimes show the correct voltage, hwmonitor never does, core temp displays it properly and so does another app I had loaded :) cpuz was reporting a voltage of 1.68 and I crapped myself.... core temp happily said 1.45 :)

Other than the mentioned niggles. Is there a better board for this price range??

Would like to crossfire in the future at best speeds to.
Thanks
for the help :)

the gigabyte and asus were both on my potential list.... ended up with the asus as I found no reason to spend the extra money for the gigabyte

I have one, 965 @ 3.8ghz.

If I were you, I'd get the cheapest chip that will work, then if it ain't fast enough, go to a 6 core when they come out. (Y)

The 965 is becoming a dead chip IMO. The 975 should be out soon and then this 6 core.

The only reason i would get the 965 over the 955 is for the new revision with better power saving. And its roughly the same price
If i wait for the 795 then thuban will be round the corner then bulldozer.lol.
I will never get away from this re hashed P4 im using now.lol.I want my new rig for xmas :)
