Hello,

How does the below look as the basis of a HTPC? I know it’s a little overpowered but I might throw in a graphics card at a later date and do a little gaming. Will the motherboard and DDR2 hold the processor back to much or will it be OK?

Don't know a lot about AMD so any advice appreciated

Looks like a good spec mate. AFAIK there is very little difference with the DDR2 or DDR3. Like 10% or summit. The gigabyte version of the 780g board is a little more popular though, i think it has better audio through the hdmi

The performance difference using DDR2 or DDR3 with the chip will be utterly negligable. Less even than 10 %, prob less than 2% in any real life task.
DDR3 is now very affordable but the range and price of AM2+ boards is much better than AM3 boards, so I would say your choice is spot on.
