Hi All

Can anyone give some advice please.

I have a FX 8350 AMD CPU and a Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 Mobo though the CPU will not fit it just does not clip down to become stable so is loose.

My old mobo worked well and now that will not fit my CPU.

I've tried all ways round to fit the CPU and none will work.

Do you think I should RMA the CPU back to OCUK or is there another way like maybe another Mobo.

Thanks in advance.

Check you have not bent any pins as it sounds you may have. if you have, you an fix it but you have to be extremely careful.

The CPU should have a mark on one corner which is replicated on the mobo. Itonly goes on that way.

Hi Dave

I think you just hit it on the head when I pulled my fan out the CPU came out also and bent some pins.

Do you know if I can RMA it even though it was my own problem it is still within the 28 days.

Unfortunately not. Damage is your fault. If it was me I would try and bend them back. You need a steady hand and a good small set of tweezers and preferably a magnifying glass.

If you still have good eyesight and are very careful you can bend the pins back inline using anything you feel is appropriate, ie thin screwdriver, plastic card etc.

I'm not sure how the rma stands with the problem.
post a pic of the cpu on here with the pins so we can se how bad it is

(typed whilst others contributed :) )

yeh when removed cpu / heatink always leave the pc on for an hour or so before to warm the paste so its not rock hard like glue.

Then twist the heatsink first don't just pull it as it will rip it out.

I learned this on my 1075t as the heatsink ripped the cpu out. (thankfully I didn't get any bent pins.)

You also can't RMA it as you caused it.

No u cant use rma as damage is your hand not the ocuk or amd so u can unbend very careful and take yer time, ive done last time when i found two bend in ph2 965 ans unbend and then put on socket that work great... really careful cos it would easily badly damage if u careless

Oh dear..... :(

Can you take a picture of the bent pins for us? if you are very careful you might be able to bend them back.

for future reference there is a gold arrow on one of the corners of the CPU's top side of the PCB, line that up with the arrow on the socket, it should just drop in properly under its own weight, the only time you need to put your finger on it is to hold it in place while clamping the socket down.

dont worry just yet !

you can bend them back and my mate did exactly the same other week his is now fine :)

look on youtube there are many videos for fixing them

what you want is a credit card some cotton and a steady hand

as long as you can get the rows pretty straight when you put back in mobo it will straighten up enough. just dont bully and take your time. good luck !
