Is the AM3 latch on a asus mobo meant to be quite stiff when you get to about 80 degrees lift?

yep check the golden trianagle is the right way and that all pins are seated and PUSH

So all I gotta do is lift the lever till it clicks and the cpu will be free so I can remve it?

Not sure if it's going to click but it won't go any further ( unless you want to force it and break it ).

Remember don't force anything, it should open without any force tbh, if you need any force to take out the CPU then probably some of the pins are bent.

Mine was. It's the little edgey things putting pressure on the little pinny things. I think.

In fact, both my motherboards have been like that. Just push it down smoothly, but the arm shouldn't be bending much.
