right here we go.

I have just got an amd fx6 6100 chip and an am3+ motherboard but it will not post, I have been told I will need to do a bios update for it to support my am3+ cpu but should a am3+ board not supply a am3+ cup with out flashing the bios. I am not very happy having to but a am3 cpu to make the board work when it was sold to me as a am3+ board.

what should I do flash it or return it

What is the motherboard your using?

It might be worth speaking to the company you purchased the board form and ask them to flash the BIOS.

this board https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-369-GI&tool=4

I did talk to OcUK customer support and I was told to buy a cpu from a shop flash the board then return it as faulty I said ok I will order one now from OcUK and return it latter in the week and the phone went dead...... that is not the customer support I have come to know from them. on a second call I was told my am2 cpu will work in the board for me to flash.... no it will not even fit the socket. lol

I'd return the lot fella. Maybe you bought the AMD setup as they had a cashback offer on them but in all truth you'd be much better off with an Intel i3 and a H67/cheap Z series mobo.

Post in the customer services section of the forums. That's what I always get recommended to do. I've had problems with the telephone service I received as well.

Just looked on the Gigabyte website at the CPU support list and it does indeed appear that you will have to update the bios to allow full support of AM3+ CPU's.

opened the box? DSR and RMA'ing don't work like that, the product does not work as intended, contact Ocuk for an RMA Number and return it ;)

thanks.

I will just upgraded to a 1055t or make a i5 system. or I think am better off getting a pre made kit
