Im looking for a new motherboard and processor. i wanna stick with amd and im looking for a motherboard for a phenom processor. ive had a look on ocuk but i would really like to find one that has 2 IDE controller ports as well as the new sata II ports. do any exist or are there any pci attachments i can get instead. i know ide is outdated but i really would like to carry on using my hard drives until the do decide to call it quits.

any ideas?

cheers for that powelly. it looks pretty decent. i could always set up a small secondary system for the time being and sift through the files. either that or find an IDE drive caddy or something. thanks for the help though mate

side note. what recommendations can be made for ram? i dont want too expensive. anything that is 3 or 4gig.

i did look at this:

Worth it or is there anything better at a similar price.

will i need a better gfx card than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 for playing games such as black ops?

I cant see why you can't use the old IDE connectors that come in pre-build machines, where it has a CD drive installed with a second plug on the ribbon for another drive.

Do you not have to set up master and slave then????

of course you do yeah. i check the setup i had originally and copy to new system.

only thing is i'll need 2 ide ports as i have 2 hdd ide drives and 2 ide dvd-rw drives. i would like to keep the use of all 4 if possible.

New board and CPU? I'd spend another £40 and buy a 1TB hard drive and ditch IDE. It'd be a lot faster too. Even SATA II optical drives are dirt cheap.

i do have a couple of 1tb hdd's already and they both full atm. i could buy a couple more and transfer the data.

the only issue i have is money at present. im really just looking for a total cost though so i know what the damage will be.

if you really want to reuse all the ide hard drives, why not consider a pci or pci-e ide controller card. ocuk don't stock them but they are widely available if you google ide controller card.

I would ditch the dvd writers as the sata ones are cheap as chips then you can run you 2 Hdd off the one port untill you can afford sata Hdd's

£11.74 for a sata DVD RW
