AM4 gets yet more CPU's

Yeah exactly. These 'new' AM4 parts are still old Zen3. There were Zen3 parts released years ago with greater performance, such as 5800X3D for gaming and 5950x for multi-core.
They did have zen3 in 6nm for laptops as the 6000 series. They should have pulled out some 6nm parts for desktop platform too

It's great they're still refreshing the AM4 - although obviously driven by the fact they think there are sales in it. With 5800x3ds around £260 currently, they need to be less than the rrp $249 which usually translates to the same in £. I suppose in a long-lived platform there is a significant quantity of prev generation cpus in boards whose owners you can tempt if there are some enticing new releases to dangle - after all if you get a new mobo you might go to intel instead. 5950x3d next please!

My 3900X doesnt limit my 2080 yet but if I ever did become GPU bound I would probably end up with a newer X3D chip.

Would sting to lose the multicore performance outside of gaming though.

It offers a nice upgrade for those coming from a nonX3D chip for less money but yes I agree with others I would prefer to buy the 5800 second hand (which I have done). But when you can get both second hand then it comes down to what you have to spend.

Gaming performance wise there probably isn’t going to much between them.
