AM4 gets yet more CPU's

My 3900X doesnt limit my 2080 yet but if I ever did become GPU bound I would probably end up with a newer X3D chip.

Would sting to lose the multicore performance outside of gaming though.

Would the IPC efficiency gains not negate the difference somewhat in core count?

I plan on keeping my system for a long time so this is great news for me. AM4 is the gift that keeps giving. This might be another X58/X79 Xeon situation.

An X3D chip has been on my radar for a bit as my 3600 is showing its age a bit - and it should last me well into the future. Will OCUK have it Jan 31st?

It's worth it bud, even with more mid range cards.

I'm on a 4070 and my uplift in some games from a 3700X has been absolutely massive, especially with min frames.

I just got a 4070 Super, and can see improvement over my 3070 running on 3700X. I am getting odd game pauses though so seriously considering the 5800X3D.
I intend keeping my AM4 set up for a few more years.

I am only on a B450 board though so not sure if gains will be that massive?

Probably search more and post separately but looking for cpu cooler recommendations for the 5800X3D as well

I'm running a B450 myself, I have zero regrets.

Dying Light 2 for example showed a huge improvement.

@Gray2233 What cooler did you go with and up to the job when gaming?

Not seeing many recommendations as such while browsing forums

Thermalright Phantom Spirit for £30, more than ample for the job tbh. You could probably get away with the £15 Assassin King (five heatpipe) assuming your case has good airflow.

For reference, the Phantom Spirit is pretty much the same as the Peerless Assassin but with an extra heatpipe for the same cost.

Tempted to get a 5700x3d and see how it performs against a stock 5800x with my 3090.

its a big upgrade.

i went 5600 > 5800x > 5800x3d

56 to 58 game no performance difference at all with a 3090 under water gaming at 1400p 165hz. but when i got the 5800x3d the step up was a real shock lol, i just didn't expect that much of a difference.
But the gaming experience didn't really change as the 5800x with a 3090 wasn't really a problem, it hit my FPS cap at max setting in the gaming i played

Yes I was just thinking that, still have my X58 machine in the loft after upgrading to AM4.

Recently went from a 5900x to 5800x3d and couldn't be happier, but uplift in min fps..

Went the same way - likewise very happy! I do wonder how much more they can squeeze out of the platform before heat prevents any more progress - maybe then all the old cooling gear will come back into its own :)

Wouldn't it be interesting if they put out X3D chips for the lower end parts. Like 4c/8t. Would be amazing for people on a budget.
