AM4 gets yet more CPU's

can i user with a 5800x3d run the CPUz bench, just to see what impact the 400mhz as

i got 533.4 and 5882.3
Is that with the 5700x3D?

I don't have a 3D chip, but just tested on my 5950X ( so not sure if this info is relevant to you!) and got 671.5/11344.1 - Even with the lower clocks due to vcache on the 3Ds I'm surprised the ST score is so different!

(Edit: 64GB at 3200 C16/18/18/36/74/1T, CPUz version 2.09.0 - I think they changed it a while back resulting in higher scores, was mentioned in the CPUz bench thread on here but can't remember when that was!)

I could swear I've seen RAM speed & latency articles where even just tweaking timings made single digit performance differences, surely going fast and lower latency would be more than 5%?!

Gone are the days when I'll spend hours actually tweaking and testing that though so 3466 CL17 will have to do.

I guess the videos I saw about the 5800X3D RAM memory scaling were buried in reviews of that processor and not standalone ones.

I bought my RAM of 2 x 8 GB 3 GHz CL15 when it was about £120. Last year I got a matching 2 x 8GB off the bay for like £24

Guess I should just just throw the RAM up for sale and buy mega-speed low latency B-Die sticks to pump my 5700X, but the alternative of just going for a 5700X3D appeals, and suspect that it'd be faster + have more resale value in the end.

New RAM, probably faster, more then a few %? Probably not! enjoy your already fast enough CPU :D

yes it was the SC score i was looking at really. it would look like the 4.1ghz clock speed as a big impact

According to this - https://valid.x86.fr/bench/1 the 5800x3D is getting just shy of 600. I'm not sure what the CPUz bench is a good representation of tbh, I'd expect in certain (mainly gaming) workloads the 3D chips will be far ahead.

https://www.techspot.com/review/2801-amd-ryzen-5700x3d/ - showing about 4% difference here between 5800/5700x3D in most games. From memory, thing like factorio absolutely love the vcache (anadndtech bench) - 40-80% (ish) faster

Horses for courses ;)

Just ran the benchmark and got 614.7 and 6489.9. (Kombo Strike 3 enabled)
EDIT: 533 is a 5700X3D not a 58 so ignore my comparison

614 does seem more reasonable, my 5600 (100mhz lower boost clock than 5800X3D) gets 605 so 533 does seem really low.

the 533 is a 5700x3d its 400mhz slower than a 5800x3d.
i just wanted a see how much slower it is in general CPU tasks.

can you think of a more fitting test to run

Aaah sorry I got confused there, 10% ish lower score for similar-ish reduction in clock speed. Seems legit then :)

As for better tests? I'm assuming you're gaming so probably game benches are best but to be fair it's no slouch!

watching some yourtube game comparisons the FPS difference is 2fps to 10fps depending on games.
tbf i think cyberpunk @ 1440 135 vs 137fps is not somthing i would get upset about.

the CPU is for my some so all it dose is watch you tube and game

Not the greatest source, but read a Youtube comment of someone claiming to have tested the 5700X3D with something like 2400 MHz RAM vs 4000 MHz, and the difference was 5% in overall performance.

Takes me back to the days I was weighing up splashing out on the 5800X3D vs a budget 5700X option to tide me over (was on a Ryzen 2700). The 5800X3D chip managing much better with slower RAM was definitely something I took in to consideration, but in the end settled for the 5700X considering the enormous gulf in price difference at the time and the massive upgrade I was getting anyway from a 2700.

Another factor was I heard the 5800X3D runs hot, and I only have a 140mm single fan AIO watercooler.

My head is definitely turned now by the 5700X3D. Currently checking out reviews.

I'm surprised the big youtubers haven't done work on temperature comparisons with the 5800X3D. They note 'the only difference' between the 5700X3D and the 5800X3D on the AMD spec page is in clock frequency, while ignoring that for the 5800X3D the recommended cooling is a high quality watercooler or some such, whereas the 5700X3D recommended cooling info is absent IIRC from their screen grabs. Both chips are allegedly 105W TDP, vs just 65W for the 5700X though.

It's not the speed tbh. It is totally down to the timings. Tighter the better really.

I can confirm I am now getting over 30 FPS more in PUBG just from changing out the CPU and crappy RAM, and I doubt it was down to the RAM (I had a 3950x in there before). There's no doubt it's a fast gaming CPU tbh.

"Recommended cooler: Liquid cooler recommended for optimal performance"

Cooler info entirely absent

I despair that reviewers aren't picking up on what might possibly be one of the biggest selling points for the 5700X3D over the 5800X3D, if only they'd have bothered noticing and checking.

I wouldn't worry too much about cooling it. I haven't seen mine go over 53c yet on the cheapo 360 AIO I have on it. The clock speed drop will help it massively vs the 5800X3D, as it seems the higher clocked that lump of cache is the more it gets very hot.
