Hey guys,

I recently built a am4 rig. Which I’m happy with, but wondering if a am5 upgrade would be beneficial?

I’m currently on a 5700x3d with 64gb ram on a 4070ti..

I was looking at a 7900x3d..

You really need to get that upgraditus seen to :p

I recommend to have a watch:

This can be interesting too (5800X3D and 7600 performance isn't far apart):

If you’re mainly using it for gaming then the 7800x3d actually outperforms the 7900x3d in most tiles so even with the reduction in price on the 7900x3d the 7800x3d is still likely to be the better choice. Seems like stock reduction more than anything.

If it was my pc I don’t think I’d bother upgrading yet considering you’ve only just bought it and a new generation of cpus and motherboards are on their way.

Im going to agree with the other guys, the 7900X3D is a rubbish chip, and you have to remember, its basically the only 7000X3D chip that was binned because of faulty cores, ive had 3 and sent them all back, theyve all had useless IMCs in them, the 7950X3D and 7800X3d both have 8 core 3D CCDs in them, so I recently bit the bullet and brought a 7950X3D instead and its been a great chip so far, im still tweaking, but so far so good.

Because of the high resale value of the 5800X3D.

I just sold my old 5800X3D set up which basically covered my AM5 set up (7600, Asus B650E-I, 32GB ram 6,000 MHz). I game at 3440x1440 anyway, so the 7600 is fine.

Now I am ready to drop in any CPU later on when needed.

For gaming you maybe better off with the 7800X3D, see below.
Comparing the 7800X3D to the 7900X3D, the 7800X3D actually turns out to be the better CPU for gaming by a slight margin, probably because it has 8 cores that all benefit from the extra cache, while the 7900X3D has 12 cores, but divided into a 6+6 configuration, and only 6 cores can access the cache.

Did it cover it? Isnt the mobo 240£ alone?

I picked up a ‘refurbished’ one for £180 (plenty of pics listed). It was basically new, it still had the plastic peels on the board. When I received it I can tell it was an unwanted returned product, as it had some return labels on the box. Only the keychain was missing but not that I use it anyway.

The 7600 was £140, the original purchaser bought it and never used it. They even provided the receipt that showed it was less than 1 month old.

Ram was new from Overclockers.

So I ended up chunking in £38 for the switch.
