So what's everyone expecting or hoping for from AM4? Is like to make a return to AMD as the next upgrade from my 2500k however that depends on them being competitive.

Is it just a case of AMD just catching up to Intel motherboard features or can they offer something that Intel don't?

I was always surprised AMD don't make more of offering both discrete GPU's and CPU's ie. the whole being greater than the sum of the parts, encouraging people to buy both the CPU and GPU from them.

Nobody actually knows anything. It's all speculation and rumours. There is a huge thread on Zen here. Rather than listening to hype and rumours of rumours we just need to wait until it's actually released and reviewed before making judgement. The motherboards should have all the latest tech in them though. They badly need a platform update as AM3+ and 970/990FX are ancient and lacking so many things now.

I'd expect the obvious up to date features like DDR4, M.2 + NVMe boot, U2, usb 3.1.

Hopefully lots of PCIe lanes available like the AM3 platform. And quad channel ram would be great.

Yes thanks. I've read the thread to death, I was now interested in the motherboards than the cpus hence this thread. Add you say sine serious updating is required and I'dI like to see the quality and features of the Intel boards available for Zen. AMD really need to find some kind of USP and not rely on just being slightly cheaper.

There also seem to be less manufacturers to choose from although more by accident I've always had MSI boards and never had any issues with them.

A blend of X99 and Z170. Best of both with the draw backs of non.

No more choosing between a quad core with higher performance or a hex core with lower. EEC or no ECC.

Very good point. That artificial division between products is very annoying. That would really sell me if AMD go down that route. I'd rather pay a bit extra on a motherboard and have upgrade paths than have to keep changing them which is a pain!

I'd also like to see boards just for gaming with no extra stuff in there just two 16x slots good spacing, good overclocking bios and very stable. All for a decent price. Too often those boards have no end of slots a million connections and priced north of £200. Money wasted buying stuff you won't use.
