Hi,
i have been looking for a AM5 motherboard with PCIe Gen 5 and a optical out for 350 smackeroonies. i have been looking but none seem to be possible at this price range :(
maybe i am old fasioned but why are motherboards with optical out with PCIe Gen 5 impossible to find sub £350? i remember when £150 for a MOBO was considered overpriced.. how time have changed in this crazy generation.

Any recommendations, or is somthing soon coming out on the horizon i should wait a bit for. I would prefer a gigabyte or Asus model if possible.

Thank You

Paul

Ah! maybe Asus ROG Strix B650E-E Gaming WIFI for a few more pennies. Anyone have thsi and recommend it?
I have an ASUS B650E-E and its been working fine for about a month. Expensive but has 4 m.2 slots, PCIe 5 for GPU and 2 M.2 slots (using the second gen 5 m.2 drops the GPU down to 8x gen 5). I dont think dropping the GPU down will be an issue, even 8x gen 4 is enough for a GPU.

I was surprised to leasrn that most x570 bords optical out don't support Dolby surround or DTS. I ended up purchasing Soundblaster cards for both my rigs and made sure each of them decoded surround sound. (I run the optical out to an AV rcvr)

I don't know if any of the AM5 boards decode surround sound or if that even matters for your use case, but I just wanted to note it here because I just assumed optical out = surround sound and I was disappointed.

No its doesn't have USB connection just optical and the usual analog connections. how would i find out if the Asus ROG Strix B650E-E supported Dolby or DTS. suspect contacting CS from ASUS would get a IDK response.

Something else I found is that if you select headphones instead of speakers on the soundblaster software, that also limits you to stereo. (Bottom left of the soundblaster software)

I was thinking the same thing. When browsing AM5 boards just curious really and noticed all the "cheap" ones and some of the more pricey do not have optical. What gives?! But I'd totally go for that board as well. Gets good reviews too.

Thanks Firegod , i looked at them all especially the Gigabyte ones, the one i have atm is a Giga and its been going strong for 7 years now. the Asus ROG Strix B650E-E seems like it is the best value of them all with everything i need. a little worried about going with ASUS based on past experinces but i am not paying £500 for a Mobo. the optical not having dolby or DTS would be a deal breaker though i would have to find out about that, god know who i will contact at ASUS about that. i assumed as @Twinz did all opticals supported Dolby and DTS.

Supports DTS but not Dolby according to a review

DDL/DTS✗ / DTS Sound Unbound
Get a sound card or USB Sound thing then you can get whatever MB you want. The ASUS B650E-E is a good MB but would not get it just for sound outputs.

MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI has optical out, it ~£220.
SoundBlaster Z is ~£60, needs a PCIe slot.
