Wonder for 1680x1050 how much difference their is between a 512mb 4850 and its 1gb brother. A couple of 1gb's in my setup would be neat, for the price of 1 4890!!

Hey Fatboy,

I think that product blurb is a bit misleading, seems to be indicating that this card is built using 40nm when it's actually 55nm, basically a cut down HD48xx series! :)

Apart from that tiny detail another great selection of bargain GPU's, very tempting!

A lot of people say 1GB "feels smoother", hardocp even mentioned it when benching STALKER: Clear Sky. The problem is at 1680x1050, numbers on a graph don't show this experience. Not saying I have an opinion one way or the other, haven't tested it myself.

A lot of people say 1GB "feels smoother
If the texture data is too big to store locally in the onboard frame buffer the card swaps data backwards and forwards with the main system memory, this presents itself as an occasional *micro-stutter*, it's not a show stopper by any means but for those with keen senses it may be enough to snap them out The Zone and make them feel their PC is laggy! :p

With the latest games, maxed settings (inc AA) and a high resolution the 512MB frame buffer is gonna get thrashed!. I did notice though that a lot of games make an effort to work well without exceeding 512MB, I think this is due to the bulk of gamers owning a 512MB card and playing at 1280x1024, however with prices as they are it makes a lot of sense to have more Video Ram, 896MB and 1GB do give you a bit of breathing room and should allow 1920x1200 to play *micro-stutter* free in most situations. I wonder what game and settings combo exceed 1GB of Frame-Buffer usage?

Sorry to be picky but that's not what microstutter refers to! Microstutter has nothing to do with memory, it's the effect caused when the delta between frame rendering times varies greatly, usually because of multi-GPU rendering solutions, giving the overall impression of a lower framerate than what's being reported, or in more extreme cases slight jerkiness.

Sorry to be picky but that's not what microstutter refers to!
Hi Lightnix,

you are being picky, I'm well aware a bunch of people have dubbed the effect from multi-GPU as Micro-Stutter but that is not a concrete term, if it will make you happy then just call it Tiny-Jerk, is that better! :D
