Whilst in Berlin, our German colleagues took us to a project they were involved in (I'm a building project manager)

This hotel was unbelievable. It has a fish tank in the middle of the lobby, suspended 4m in the air above a bar, with a glass lift going through the middle of it.

Amazing!

They have a resident diver!

Also, there used to be small sharks in it, but the scales were too course and scratched up the perspex.

I have some pics from the glass gantry at the top too. I'll have to upload them from home tonight.

I am a structural engineer and the forces involved with witholding that height of water are very high. Therefore, in my professional opinion, that has a coolness rating of 10+. :)

It's supported by a concrete column.
The sides are perspex, not glass. It is 28cm thick at the bottom, and tapers towards the top.
The perspex is done in some special, highly secret way, so that you can't actually see it. It tricks your eye into looking like it is very very thin. Really cool stuff.
The lift in the middle takes about 4 mins to go up and is two stroies in itself.
There are three glazed walkways from the top of the tank. Scary to walk on!
