I've just bought a Samsung UE55MU6400. I was planning to buy an Amazon Fire TV 4K for the new season of The Grand Tour when I realised there was an Amazon app on the TV. I logged into my Amazon account last night to see what the first season looked like. The intro to the show looked like it was very low-res, not even 720p.

Should the Amazon app on the Samsung TV be able to stream 4K or do I need to buy the Amazon Fire TV K4 to get 4K? I've googled and looked in the TV manual but can't find a definitive answer.

How long did you watch for? It can take a moment for the quality to improve once it figures out how fast your connection is. Could also be a wi-fi issue though, are you having the same problem on other apps?
10 seconds or so. Haven't bothered with any of the other apps as I don't really care about them. It was just my realisation that I could save myself £70 if I don't need the Amazon Fire TV 4K that I was checking on the TV.

But you reckon that it should do 4K?

I always find it far better to connect by network cable and not Wi-Fi
Yeah I do mean to run cables to my living room to hook up my consoles, TV and Blu-ray player but that'll take a while to get sorted.

Hi all. Thanks for the updates. I checked the app again last night and it was in glorious 4K. It was then I realised that considering it's Hammond, May and Clarkson I may not actually want 4K Grand Tour. :D

Having watched the last couple of episodes I don't think I was ever watching in 4K. I've paused the episodes and noticed that it says "1080p". Guess I will need to get the Amazon Fire TV 4K after all. :(
