Amazon App Store now live but....

I thought it went live for 30 mins, then they pulled it?

Also, Apple suing due to name "app store" - lol

I managed to get the .apk installed but tried to grab Angry Birds Rio (free launch app) and it just fails to download.

After reading the comments on engadget it appears you can only download stuff after adding a credit card which proves you are in the US.

It certainly takes your account but you get "An error occured while purchasing AB Rio - please try again".

Which they were granted rights too so they will probably win that

Were they granted copyright on "App Store"? I thought Microsoft were fighting it and it hadn't been granted yet. Could be wrong though.

Ridiculous if you ask me, "App Store" is so generic that I don't see what the problem is. And as for Apple's claim it may confuse customers, I would suggest this would only be the very stupid ones. If you have an Apple device you can only use Apple's App Store, if you have another platform you can't. How is that confusing?

I'm not sure about US/Internationally but in the UK they couldn't register the trademark "App Store" (it's not a copyright) as it is self descriptive, it's a store that sells apps.

I've just looked on the appstore, and they are charging for Angry Birds, which is free on Android Market. What's that about?

Pretty sure on my old Nokias there was the "application store" where you could buy about 3 apps well before the iphone came along tbh. So childish to try this on but hey, lawyers have to earn their keep.

Pretty bad move going US only but it does mean you only have to worry about a few handsets in mass circulation over there instead of every android worldwide.

US only means we could end up missing out on some good deals for apps though, especially since they are doing a free paid app every day.

Amazon are ridiculous for selling on to USA.

They announce worldwide that they have exclusivity rights to sell Angry Birds Rio. Put it up free to the Americans for one day only, then make sure the rest of the world pay up if they want the app.

I forgot the Internet is only available in USA and they only sell Android devices there too!!

LOL @ the typical American response here too:

For all those complaining about how companies run their business, how about YOU open your own application store in your own country and run it the way you see fit…I mean really, when a business setups up and runs in a free country, they can run it and sell where and to whom they want. Some other countries may be restrictive, or punitive in their tax code, overseas regs can be a hassle, even online, etc etc etc. Android is open to all is it not, and it;s all about choice is it not and freedoms? You don’t see another Apple App store anywhere do you? Quit complaining about what American companies do in America and you open your own business in your country…

Imbecile!

I'm getting fed up with Apple & their seemingly ongoing battle to copyright everything.

I'm just waiting for the day that I can only buy Granny Smiths from an approved Apple reseller! (sorry iGrannySmith)
