Amazon buys Twitch for $970 million

Now all those scantily clad ladies can have a button direct to their wishlist so their 'fans' can buy them things.

Still, it is better than Google getting them in my opinion.

It will be interesting to see how this will work with streamer partnership programs and the fact that most streamers are partnered with amazon competitors, I cant see many people wanting to actually partner with amazon given that most of the time they are more expensive than the companies streamers are using and recommending.

I will never understand how these sites which could drop off the internet at any time are worth stupid amounts of money

Often down to the tech/patents the company holds or existing user/client base.

You are right though, mad amount of money. Was it cash though as the WhatsApp/Facebook deal was something like 1/4 cash with the rest stock.

So glad Google didn't buy it,They would have ruined it like YT and with the ideas Google are coming up with lately like "Subscription" plan models for youtube in regards to getting away from ads and everything they can shove that where the sun don't shine.

Then again,Wouldn't surprise me for Amazon to do something with loads of ads pointing to Amazon or something. :/

As a Play Music All Access subscriber, the YT thing you are referring to will be awesome for me.

Google seem to be doing a U-turn on the Google+ sign in across services so I highly doubt they would have done that for twitch. I could imagine closer Twitch/YT integration which I would've been fine with.

never, you would be made to use your real name & use google hangouts.... or worse google+

Despite all the press, you don't have to use your real name on youtube, and Honeslty, Google+ isn't that bad.

Instead you'll need to sign into your Amazon account, and be spammed with adverts and amazon prime offers? Why do people think Amazon would be better than Google?

Indeed, its just another giant US technology company, although Google has more experience with video streaming and generating Ad revenue. Amazon probably will give the website more attention than google would though.

Links to the Amazon store for the game being streamed is pretty much guaranteed I would think.
Buy it now:
LoL
DOTA2
Pokemon Emulators

Oh wait...

Yeah yeah, you can't always buy the game from Amazon, I'm sure there is stuff related to nearly every game you can buy from there though. Merchandise etc.

I can see them working it in to Amazon Prime subscription.

Wouldn't that be a good thing?

No, because ever since they integrated the Youtube account with the Google account I haven't been able to post any comments on Youtube, this is despite jumping through all their hoops and linking accounts. It not only means I can't comment on videos in general but I can't reply to any questions that people ask about videos on my channel.

Pretty glad amazon secured this, I was watching the wan show from linus and he quoted someone, not quite sure who but it went something like this.

Choose firefox now while you still have the choice.

He then proceeds to explain that it isn't directly aimed at any Browser and more so about the dominance of google in the market, any market they enter. Basically they are running away with whatever they lay their hands on. slowly with the integration of all the services they provide the eco system google offer is becoming all encompassing, this isn't to say that some nefarious plot by google is afoot but more to do with that eventually so many things you rely on will be so entwined and integrated that you wont have a easy alternative option that wouldn't require a painful, cumbersome and long winded solution to continue using the google services you want and drop the ones you don't.

All this means that the average joe who can not be bothered with the hassle will just trump up and bye in to the eco system, completely segregating themselves form the option to move on to something else.

I thought it was a very good point and something I personally could comprehend, I don't know what other peoples thoughts are on this but I believe that there is sense in what was said.

Either way, amazon have thrown at least a little spanner in the world domination plans of the mighty google :D
