Amazon EC2 Ubuntu Server RDP

Hi,

I have an instance set up using Ubuntu Server 13.10. I can SSH into it fine and connect to it without issue.

However, I'd now like to set it up with a desktop environment and to be able to RDP (or similar) into it but I've tried several things and none have worked.

Can anyone give me some guidance as to what I should be doing? I followed a guide to install lxde and xrdp here. It works, but it is so slow and the keyboard doesn't work on it.

Any ideas?

There's x2go and NoMachine.

I can't seem to get NoMachine working. It reports that there are no sessions available. I've tried using ssh x11 forwarding, but it's very slow indeed. Any help?

I use xvncserver on my smalls servers. basically it's a faceless X session running in a virtual screen, and you can connect to it via any VNC client (on your tablet, PC etc)

Been using that for years, it works fairly well!

xRDP does the job perfectly - not quite a native RDP environment (copy+pasting isn't always up to the Windows equivalent) but I rarely want to use RDP to transfer files anyway (why wouldn't you just use FTP?)
