I think this feature became available in the US last year, but it's still not here in the UK.

It basically allows you to trigger routines based on your phone's location for example.

Wonder why us poor folks still don't have access to it?

I use Life360 for that.
It lets you trigger things based on a family of phones. So first one home heating comes on. Last one to leave heading goes off.

Is that free or subscription?

And based on events (eg: arriving home) that app can fire off "smart events"? How would say one of my children's phones (running that app) know what smart devices are in the home and how to control them? Via me setting up a group and defining it and it all magically working somehow? Even though they don't have the heating app on their phone?

It's free.

That app itself doesn't control anything what it does do is allow you to see what phones you add are where you can then trigger smart home stuff via IFTTT.

Basically the one for me heating is.

IF any phone is at home = Evohome on.
IF no phones are at home = Evohome Eco mode.
