ocuk i need your help! :o

the wife long has wanted an amazon echo, however i'm not sure if i should get the echo or the dot + a wireless speaker
we currently have no wireless speakers in the house and also i don't know anything about the echo (i.e. is it more novelty thing?).
So that had me thinking if it wouldn't be better to get the dot and a decent wireless speaker to go with it.

just judging by the amount of replies in the sonos thread.
the play:1 + dot would be an ideal combo?

budget will be around £200 i guess but can stretch a bit.

thanks

There's no official support as yet for the echo and Sonos.

Its supposedly coming soon.

I have a Sonos play 1 and echo dot and I'm waiting patiently for support so I can use the echo to control my sonos for music. Support is apparently coming this year.

I would imagine the echo would be much better for sound than the dot, the dot is fine for basic stuff but music, not really.

If your not bothered about voice control, the Sonos speakers are very good.

Personally voice control is ok but Ive not used my dot since Christmas, I just want it for controlling my music on the Sonos which Im waiting for Amazon/Sonos to sort out, if ever.

:(
shame there's no support yet. do we know if this will just be a firmware upgrade if sonos/alexa support is implemented or will they force the customer to buy it again with new "features"? :p

Tough decision, although I plan to add the dot to our Sonos system once it's fulled supported :)

Sonos + amazon stuff is coming, but I reckon it won't be until around May/June. Yes it will be a firmware upgrade for the speakers, so nothing to change there, but chances are there could be a new version of the echo/dot that will be needed, but hopefully not.

Also Sonos prices are set to go up by the end of the month, so if you are going to buy, now is the time to do so, as a play 1 will soon be £199.

We have the soundbar and play 1 at home and can say both very impressed with the sound quality, plus the ease to setup.

If I was you, I would suggest just getting the Sonos play 1 for now, then waiting until the support is launched and make a decision on that. Like how they said 3d would take off for TV's... That has now pretty much died out, so who knows whether this voice stuff will last, as one of my friends pretty much used his dot for a week and doesn't bother anymore.

As for sound quality (others may have different opionions), but the Sonos ****es all over the Amazon echo in terms of quality and loudness.

Sonos have released or are releasing a public beta soon (7.2) which they say has a lot of backend support for exciting new features.
Most likely for echo support.
