Hi all, could do with some guidance.

I have had for some years a Computer under the stairs running XBMC / KODI with cables - HDMI through the wall to my main TV in the lounge. I suppose it is a HTPC as media is all it is used for.

I have recently got a Amazon Fire Stick for the bedroom TV.

I have installed KODI on the Fire Stick, but for the life of me. I cannot get Movies / TV Shows etc to show up on it, you know with the 'Box art etc' on it.

I have tried adding 'From Source' etc. But cannot seem to either find my HTPC PC or it just doesnt give me anything to add that wireless network location.

It is of course all wireless.

Can the fire stick do this?
If so, what am i missing or do i need to do something i have missed.

Any help would be great

Many thanks

Have you just installed Kodi with no addon? I installed TVaddons into Kodi, find it really good

I have installed please don't mention addons which have pirated content on the Bedroom Kodi machine which is good.
But my partner is a bit unhappy about one aspect of it which perhaps someone on here can shed some light on if there is a solution.

When for example we search for a TV Show, be it Ally McBeal, start watching an episode, we may not watch it all the way through. When you then go back to it you have to start from the beginning and fast forward.

Is there any way of it being able to remember where you are up to etc.

Thank you

Also any other 'add-ons' I should be interested in.

For info, removed isn't exactly what you would call legit/legal due to the sources it streams from so forums such as this could well frown upon its discussion.

If you stream from the same source it should however resume, if you pick a different stream then it most likely wont.

If your streaming local media such as TV series or films then Kodi does a good job of saving restore points to its database. You can also set up a single database on a share and have all you kodi clients linked to it, this enables you to stop a program/film on one client and pickup where you left off on another, i.e. when you move from the lounge to another room.

You could run a plex server on the PC under the stairs and then add the plex addon to your kodi firestick, that's the way I would do it, streams really well to numerous devices and has all the fan art, descriptions etc.

Kodi runs like dirt on the Fire TV Stick with SMB sharing. Would be interested in hearing what people do to make it play content back without dropping frames all over the place.

I'd consider the move to Plex for your personal media, It has a great interface and streams really well. There are also add-ons for streaming online content too but you could still use kodi for that.

My apologies for mentioned that add on name. Didn't know it was not allowed. Never gave it a thought. Cheers mods for editing the post etc.

No worries mate - was happy to edit and leave it as that, genuine mistake :)

I use Rpi 3 with Rasplex for my own media and got the Minix Neo u1 which i use for KODI and NBC sports app that i bought the sub to for saturday afternoon games

KODI is tosh. Unless you use something like the Minix which has its own version of KODI i used to try and stream my movies over the network to KODI via smb share and its not very good. So i put 2 6tb WD REDS in my pc set up plex server and got the pi3 for the tv downstairs set it up and stream everything flawless over the network and it just works with no hassle setting up
