Just got a Hisense 55U7A but my original AFTV 4K is only outputting 1080p (see it when the details pop up when selecting the input)

When I change the display options on the AFTV between 720 50/60hz and 1080 50/60hz options they all get reported correctly but when I change to “auto (4K)” it only does 1080p 60hz.

Any ideas? It’s my first 4K device but (although I’m not 100%) think my cables are suitable (not Monster but not scabby threadbare things either)

Probably a stupid question but I assume the content you are actually watching is in 4K? (Would a menu show up as 4K?)

My only other thought is to check to see if your HDMI cable is 2.0? (although if memory serves, even HDMI 1.4 will display 4K - it just the frame/ refresh rate that suffers?)

Any particular apps? For example, Netflix can take a little bit of time to pick up to 4K.

What is your Internet speed like? As if that's not very good then it may auto to the most stable speed.

Assuming the hdmi port you're using supports 4k 60hz.

HDMI cables just need to be labelled as high speed for 4k.

You also need the HDMI port you connect to be HDCP 2.2 compliant, otherwise it won't buffer up to 4k. Often just reconnecting them to remake the handshake sorts this out. I've found HDCP 2.2 can be a bit flakey like that.

Netflix is the easiest to test on because if the app detects devices capable of 4k playback it will say so in the description. Or it will be labelled as HDR if your TV supports that as well

If I remember correctly the original non HDR AFTV 4K didn't display the UI in 4K only 1080p due to them stupidly only using HDMI 1.4 on the box so 4K can only be done at up to 30Hz. You need to choose a Prime Video 4K stream to see the switch to 4K.

Cheers for all the tips guys.

As some have suggested I think it doesn't help my Amazon Fire TV 4K doesn't appear to run the menu in 4K, but I also found out I need to enable HDMI "enhanced more" on the input for the TV

So I'll need to run through all my testing again i.e. firing up streams and whatever.

Wish me luck! :)
