Amazon FireHD 8 Kids

Thinking of getting one of these for our 3yr old lad. Are they any good? Obviously they aren't going to be as good as an iPad but as he's only 3 I don't think he'll care. The last Amazon Fire tablet I used (I think it was a first gen) had a terrible, laggy touch screen and I'm worried that these could be the same.

The whole package seems pretty attractive, almost too good to be true. Has anyone here got one for their kids, how to they find them?

Sorry for the 4 year necro but I've just picked up a FireHD 8 10th Gen. Is there any must do things? At the moment it's just the Kids frontend and she's mashing the screen. Would like to know if I can cast from my device? Would allow the passenger to control it in the car without a sore neck.
