Hope this is the right section for this.

With the impending release of Kindle 3 at the end of the month I am considering upgrading (from a Sony PRS-505).

I have read about the whispernet and document conversion service at a fee 9emailing books to your kindle address for conevrsion and download to your kindle in the supported format) and being able to link the kindle to a pc for drag and drop addition of books.

My question is this:

I have a library consisting of word/pdf/lit/epub ebooks. Can I just drag and drop all these to the device or only certain ones. ie do I have to send them all via the conversion service? It is not immediately clear on Amazon's website.

Thats what I was concerned about, dont want to fork out and find that I either can't use some books or have to ahve them converted by Amazon's service. Though I could convert them myself I guess.....Mmmm

Kindles defiantly can't do ePub.

If it's not DRM'd you can conniver to mobi with Calibre easily, but obviously not if it is DRM'd.

I use the Kindle store a fair bit, the pricing is good for ebooks, but its a pain if you already have an ePub library.

The Kindles's native format is AZW, which is essentially a mobi with Kindle DRM.

Mobi is the recommended format for use on the Kindle, which isn't surpassing as Amazon bought Mobipocket!
