I would like to know where I stand on this from a legal standpoint.

An Amazon Logistics driver delivered a parcel by opening my front door without knocking, walking into the front porch, throwing the parcel on the ground and then leaving.

I assumed it was the missus to begin with so I never moved but upon hearing the door close again I went to check what was going on to find the parcel on the floor, seal broken and sitting open. There's no receipt inside but I have seen this a couple of times from Amazon so I don't know what to think there but now I am trying to figure out what my options are with this and the best course of action to take.

I am of course going to complain to Amazon about it when the missus gets home( it was ordered on her account) but should I let the fact that he was trespassing go or pursue this?

Any advice is welcome.

so what do you want to happen? you want money because he opened the door, or for him to be sacked? perhaps both would appeal to your need for retribution

Who said I wanted money? I want the knowledge that I can leave my door unlocked while I am at home and not have someone I don't know walking in without permission.

I have no idea where you guys live but here things like this definitely are not a common occurrence.

He walked into the porch, I saw him through stained glass panelled door. I never reacted to begin with because I assumed it was my partner. When I realised it wasn't I got up to check what was going on. I now have an unsealed parcel with potentially things missing and a driver who scarpered as fast as he could while making no obvious statement that it was him.

It's a porch that's part of the main house. It's a lockable door into a porch which then leads directly into the living room.

I can't understand why I am wrong for feeling I can be in said living room with my door unlocked.

a single partially stained glass door as mentioned before. I clearly saw someone in there, I assumed it was my partner and then when they left again I got confused and went to check.

There is a single front door to the main house, when you step into that door there is a "porch" or whatever you want to call it where shoes, coats etc are left, then a door into the main living room from there.

This is where he walked into, it's under the main roof of the house and is classed as a room in the house.

If you want to call it a hallway then call it a hallway. It's a place where you come in, there's carpetting and shoes/coats/outside clothing is left. It is between the main entrance to the house (actual lockable front door) and another not lockable door which leads directly to the living room.

Am I really to believe that I should accept someone walking into my house through my front door, with a parcel that is clearly not fit for delivery is my own fault because I didn't lock a door 15 feet from me?

Yes, I understand and accept that leaving it unlocked is bad and I will not do it from now on.

But apparently because of this it's my fault that someone walked into my house through my front door and threw a parcel onto the ground which has it's seal broken and no receipt.

I am pretty sure if I walked into someone elses house and then tried to blame them for it I wouldn't be looked on favourably.

Yeah I just gave up on this post. Just to end it though I contacted Amazon Support and told them what happened. I got the order refunded and advised to keep it so it's a decent result. It wasnt exactly a high value order but at least they're showing they'll do something.

He lodged a complaint against the driver too.

I was looking for some advice which some gave, but the majority were saying I should accept an open parcel and move on?

It became more about the fact that my door was unlocked than me receiving a broken parcel.
