Hi all,
not sure if this is the right forum, maybe TV would be better but hey ho..
I have a Samsung UHD TV and a 1440p monitor for the PC but I cannot get UHD content for love or money. Using the app on the TV and website on the PC.

The movie details list UHD but when it launches it only plays in HD. I've tried waiting several minutes uncase of buffering but no cigar
I've read various bits about bandwidth etc but I'm on FTTC @ ~35mb and getting YouTube 4k fine.

I'm tried both wired and wireless and it makes no difference.

I'm convinced I'm being a complete noob and missing something completely obvious but I'm damned if I can find it!

Ta in advance chaps!

I had this when trying to watch "Plane" in UHD on Friday but only getting HD, dont normally have an issue with Amazon, but suspect its their end / bandwith etc.

UHD on most streaming services and Amazon is no exception has very limited device support and does not work on PC even with the app - something personally I find unacceptable in this day and age.

Several Samsung Smart TVs won't actually play Amazon Video in UHD despite on paper meeting all the requirements.

Pretty much done to try and drive sales of their Fire devices.

Sometimes you only get the HD included with Prime and you have to buy or rent the UHD. They don't make that clear though.
This is the correct answer. You'll get things like Amazon Originals in UHD HDR, bit other stuff your getting the HD steam included with Prime, you'll need to pay for the UHD steam otherwise.

Wheel of Time for instance is UHD.

Doesn't matter what version you purchase or even titles like Wheel of Time, you won't get UHD on PC no matter the OS, browser or app, display, etc. you use. For Smart TVs it is hit and miss some are supported, some it just won't work (and Amazon know this) even though on paper they meet the requirements.

I've never found that, If it says UHD I always get UHD.

I've just tried Dune , John Wick 4 and Plane, all claim UHD in the menu , but only coming through as HD ( no dolby atmos either ).

Tv series marked as Uhd / Hdr / Atmos are coming through ok.

Amazon original movies i.e. The Tomorrow War are also working ok in uhd / hdr / atmos.

At one point 4k and Hd were separate boxes to click , perhaps this is a symptom of all formats now being combined into one click and the 4k box would previously been pay for only ?
Regardless, feels a bit like false advertising.

LG Tv Prime app.

I found checking on the “Just watch” app tells you if it is streaming in 4K or just HD.

Many films listed as available on Amazon show as HD for streaming but available as 4K for purchase. Very sneaky! I had a label on Jurassic park on my fire stick and projector saying 4K on the film thumbnail but on both prime apps on each device, it only comes through as HD. On “Just Watch” it says HD only so I guess they are more reliable than Amazon themselves!

By comparison, Cobweb currently shows as streaming 4K on “Just Watch” and when checking on Amazon, this is working as expected in 4K
