I've just started a free 1 month trial on Amazon Prime. I don't inted to continue with it and pay the annual £50 subscription and will cancel it before the trial ends. I only signed up because I get free next day delivery for 4 weeks. Anyway in the small print for the trial it says :-

If you want to continue after your Free Trial, do nothing. Your membership will automatically continue and we'll charge your payment method (Visa/Delta/Electron***-****) £47.97 for the next year and annually thereafter. If you prefer, you can select "do not auto upgrade" before the initial charge or "do not auto renew" before any renewal charge in Your Account and your payment method won't be charged for the next year. You can always request a refund of the most recent charge if your benefits haven't been used in the new term.

My trial ends on June 6th so I'll select the 'do not upgrade' in a few days. But does the text I've higlighted mean that it will automaticly renew amazon prime and try and charge me one year from now even if I cancel it in the next few days?

If we're unable to charge the payment method above for either the first year or an annual renewal, we'll charge another payment method we have on file for you. You can manage your full membership, including payment method and renewal setting through

Anyone explain what the highlighted text above means? What's the other payment method they'll try and charge me?

Theoretically it might not auto-charge you for this years subscription but I wouldn't really trust it not to as the wording is relatively vague. Much better to just cancel it yourself.

Also, the second bit is in case you have a second card or other payment method associated with your account - then they can try charging that if the one they've already mentioned doesn't work.

Do you mean even if I cancel in the next few days it will still charge me the £50 and then refund me in a year?

Well, I signed up for Amazon Prime for the free month, and then selected the Do Not Renew thing, and I haven't been charged a penny.

i had this problem signed up to it didnt read small print then found out that amazon charged me £57 something like that.

Luckily after the month they charge you but if you have not brought anything you get a full refund.

So make sure you have definitely cancelled it or when it comes to 4 weeks time dont order anything and check you card make sure its not been taken out and if it as then cancel it and you will get a refund

I signed up to prime and cancelled within time. I made two purchases. They took £40 from my account but then paid £40 back into my account a few days later.

I've just been and checked and found out that they'd silently charged me, as I'd signed up for the trial and forgotten about it.

Fortunately enough, if you've not made use of Prime i.e. not had any free deliveries since being charged, then you can get a full refund.

Well i'm hoping they don't take any money out as the I used someone elses card for the orders and told her if I cancel before there'll be no deduction. I'll phone them up tommorow and find out.

How long before the end of the trial did you cancel?

It's not cancelling the free trial. It's to cancel Amazon automatically signing you up for 12 months of Prime after the trial period.

I cancelled as soon as I started the trial and continued using the trial for 30 days free of charge.

i did the free trial just before xmas, ordered shed loads of stuff and got the next day delivery for free, cancelled and had no charges

Anyone finding a lot of their products seem to be outsourced now? A lot of the things I have looked like arent coming from them they are coming from smaller companies.

The first quote says that if you don't want to continue with Prime after the free trial then set that option not to upgrade before the end of the trial period then you won't be charged. (But a is normal with these things I wouldn't leave it to late to do so in case their system doesn't update in time).

The second quote says that if you don't do this, or if you already have it running and it comes to renewal time, then they will try other payment methods you have on file if your normal payment method for it fails, (you can have more than one credit card for instance on file with them).

The second quote is not applicable in your situation as you are cancelling during the trial, as per the first quote, and thus they shouldn't be trying to charge and payment methods you have.

I fail to see where the confusion is here?
