So I received a package today, it has the same house name and number as me but is actually in another part of the city. Anyone know what I have to do with the package? Can I just post it into a letterbox and hope it gets sent back to Amazon or the correct address?

Contact Amazon - they have loads of collect plus locations you can return it via (or might hold it for the intended recipient).

Open it and see what's in side?

Chances are if it's low value they'll just tell you to keep it and send another one out to the right address. It'll be more hassle for them getting it sent back.

I opened the package, it's an Oculus VR system. Jackpot!

I kid, it's a small envelope, feels like a USB stick inside. Doesn't mention the carrier anywhere. Just want the easiest option, don't have time to waste emailing, organising returns etc.

Amazon support chat. Explain, they'll check on the order, realise it'll be cheaper for them to send out another and you'll gain a mystery prize.

(The easiest option)

If you go through this there's an option to have them call you at the end or you can email them. There should be some sort of reference / tracking number on the packaging you can give to them. If it is just a USB stick I doubt they'll bother to arrange a courier to send it back but at least you've let them know so the other person isn't sat there waiting for ages.

A friend of mine used to work in their customer relations department. Apparently they often just told people to keep pretty high value stuff rather than send it back :o.

A friend was told to keep a 32" flatscreen. Neighbour signed for it for him obviously not knowing it wasn't ordered.

I wonder how much they write off each month like this.

Not so much these days with their own collection points and couriers.

True. I guess anything less than ~£20 probably isn't worth the hassle unless someone's willing to go out their way and drop it off.

He only quit a few months back mind. Apparently they love to burn people out :/

They wouldn't even write off a pair of incorrect kitchen tongs that cost under £5 for me

First off trying to get me to return them via my nearest post office then when I complained best I got was morning courier collection :/

They then sent the correct replacement out and refunded me for it too so the whole thing was a complete shambles

Amazon seems very random with their customer sevice

Little different but my best Amazon "return" was when I ordered a Bluetooth dongle only to find the one that went missing about an hour later.

Popped online and tried to cancel and it just said "Your order has been cancelled, you do not need to return this item"... then it arrived the next day.

Anyway, get on customer services - make it clear they need to collect on your terms (I.e. You're not going to the post office and you'd expect collection when you say you're home). They'll quickly tell you to keep it.

Had this happen to us in the past, turned out it was a box of protein bars! I read online that Amazons automated picking robot system thing they use is actually still in beta and that's the cause of many strange deliveries but I'm not sure if that's only in America?

Really?? You don't want to do what's right and proper?? The decent thing to do is spend 60 seconds of you day on amazon customer chat - they will tell you the near drop off point next time your passing.

I hope none of your precious deliveries ever goes missing......:(:(
