Hi all,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place - I couldn't find a forum for peripherals. I am looking for an ambidextrous mouse. I am aware of the Razer Tron, but I would rather avoid spending £100 on a mouse, I'm hoping for something closer to the range 20-30. It should have at least 5 buttons, but the thumb buttons shouldn't be in hard to activate places (as with the Microsoft Intellimouse). I used to have a mouse that worked perfectly for me and only cost £3, but I can't trace a manufacturer or anything for it, and after 6 years of service the scroll wheel is a bit buggered :(

Any help appreciated.

Regards,

Yax

Microsoft inteli points are.

*edit* continued to read your post. Sorry. The lefties at work use them and they've been very happy with them. I'll ask if anyone has anything different tomorrow.

Also does it need to be Ambidextrous or can it just be left handed? Post a picture of the old mouse, someone might be able to help.

Left-handed: logitech mx610 lh

Also the Microsoft SideWinder X3 Mouse seem to be Ambidextrous.

almost all, if not all of Razer's mice are ambidextrous. People on these forums tend to either like Razer or Logitech, but Logitech are almost all right handed.

The cheapest Razer, Abyssus doesn't have the thumb buttons, which are essential for me :(

Sidewinder side buttons look a little small .. I'll need to find one to hold.

Left handed mouse won't really work for me ...

Thanks for all the responses guys.

Ok, here I am necro-ing an old thread. I'm still on topic though!

Still looking for the same thing. I got a roccat kova, but I had problems because the Kova is the driverless version, and I think I needed the driver version to make use of the thumb buttons in the way I wanted. Then I got a Razer diamondback 3g. It was ok, tolerable, but after just two years of service, the scrool wheel packed in! £30 quid a mouse, and it lasts 1/3 the time a mouse that cost 1/10 lasted! So I won't be getting a replacement.

I got https://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-gb/p/comfort-mouse-4500 as an interim replacement. I don't like it for two reasons:

a) Thumb buttons are not in places I like.
b) Scroll wheel senstivity is a bit bizarre - in browsing it is normal/slow .. in game it is insanely fast that I cannot control it. The actual wheel feels good though, on the basis that it seems to be a non-clicky technology that won't pack in so easy

Thumb buttons are the main problem. I didn't post an image last time, so this time I will (with annotations where I would like the thumb buttons. Other than this, I actually like this comfort mouse! I'd really like an inexpensive mouse shaped like this with thumb buttons in the noted positions (both sides).

It's almost as if there is a risk of depressing the side buttons too easily. I want to be able to depress the right side button with my ring finger, with minimal effort - in the current position i'm just hurting my finger...

you sholdnt be using your ring finger, it should be your little finger. one finger on each button and one on the mouse wheel, thumb and little finger on either side. That might make it more comfortable to use once you get used to it?

Other than the Naga and the Corsair M90 I dont see any mice having buttons where the red is in your pic, since that is the standard "rest" place for the thumb, and as such shouldnt have any buttons on it to avoid them being depressed when moving the mouse around

My little finger just hangs free when I hold a mouse.. I'm not really sure how to describe how I hold it but I guess I would say its held "in the palm" of my hand, and with my thumb and ring finger by the side.

I am using my Roccat Kova while I am at uni (right now) and the buttons on that are perfect for what I want to do, so perhaps the red splotch on the picture above should be higher. So, thinking about it, I want something like the Roccat Kova+, but inexpensive...
I remembered what the driver problem was. Because the Kova has 7 buttons, for the standard driverless controls, the further front on left or right was treated as button 4, and the further back on left or right was treated as button 5, which didn't work for me. I read that drivers were required to achieve any other button assignments, and that was only available with the Kova+

I found this "Monoprice 7-Button Ambidextrous Laser Gaming Mouse - Black" which looks like it might be the ticket, but ships only from USA...

The Corsair and Razer you mention are really so expensive I could have 1-2 Roccat Kova+ for the price... Main reason why I want inexpensive is because I don't want to go through this again when the mouse packs in. If I had known that at the time I had gotten my original £3 mouse, I'd have got 6! Unfortunately, the original supplier (******) no longer supplies them, and it was some nameless brand that I couldn't track to anywhere.

EDIT: Another note about the Kova, or at least the one I am currently using - It also has scroll wheel quality issues of some sort .. but different. The rubber coating of the scroll wheel appears to "float" independently of the wheel so that it is possible to rotate the wheel coating without actually rotating the scroll wheel
