Ambilight TV's are they any good, or is it a pointless gimmick? I see you CSV him up to Phillips hue light bulbs, how is this?

No one own a Phillips ambilight TV? I was wondering if they are any good? Specifically this model
Philips 43PUS6262

Stepdad used to own one got rid of it due to constant app crashes and error notifications while watching TV. It may of been sorted now with updates.

I think it's generally accepted that you can get a better TV for the same money from other manufacturers. You're paying a premium for the Ambilight feature.

the new philips tvs ie 2017 ones i thought was pretty decent and they actually showed of the new ambilight features off. from what i have seem ambilight is way way better than just putting led strips on the back of the the tv its night and day. and after me seeing it on you tube i would personalty pay the extra for it. it is pretty cool. tp get a similar effect i think you have to buy a system which is pretty expensive.

From experience, I've got some bias lighting on my Kuro and it made a big difference when I'm watching dark content in a pitch black environment. Here's the one I went for: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-SoundScience-Powered-HDTV-Lighting/dp/B007TG5EG8

I've recommended this to two of my friends and they have both purchased their own set and been impressed with the results. From doing a bit of research, the light has to be 6500k to be effective.

When we went on holiday, the AirBnb we stayed at had an Ambi light TV. It truly was a brilliant experience and all things being equal (i.e. viewing quality, smart applications etc) I would select an Ambi light screen over another. Of course, seeing as we watch during the day too, you will note I said all things being equal because if the screen quality isn't as good as my Sammy for day time viewing, it changes the equation.

You can get various tv backlight systems just like ambilight without having to buy a substandard and overpriced phillips

I've got a pair of lightpacks, which had gone unused for ages as they needed a PC/laptop so was a bit of a faff for day to day use, but my new tv has android and lightpack now supports android too. Lightpack 2 works via hdmi and I've seen a couple of others that do too.
