Hi guys,

Got myself a ref. AMD 290 card from Sapphire. (Not bought here)

I had it mining a few days (Never over 92 degrees C) with no problems, left it on a shelf for a week and when I wanted to use it again, it didn't boot.

When I start the computer, one of these things happen:
Only the card. No boot, black screen, normal fan speed. (or 100% fan speed)
As secondary card. Boot, normal fan speed(or 100% fan speed), not detected in windows (Neither in device manager or ATIflash -I)

I have another computer with a 290, tried exchanging them, and still the same happens.

I have tried both bios options with the card switch (In case one bios was damaged)

I´m guessing the card is dead and RMA is the only option?

Should probably say that I have not done anything with the card.
No overclocking or playing with the bios. Card has been placed in a anti-static bag when not in use.

Thanks Matt.

Gef, nothing. (And no static electricity as far as I was aware. Unless my girlfriend thought it looked too dusty and vacuum cleaned it) :D

Aside from sitting with a multimeter to try and diagnose a problem that you wouldn't be able to fix regardless I'd take Matt's advice :)

The easiest thing you could do is check to see all the caps are working at their correct voltage, since a broken cap shouldn't stop the card's fans, but it definitely wouldn't boot properly either.

I'd suggest a visual inspection, and if you're really keen you can check them individually, but alas regardless of what you find any alterations to the board itself would void your warranty, I wouldn't bother personally, not worth the risk

EDIT: And it's Sapphire, they've got a UK based RMA last time I checked, extremely quick turnaround.

Yep, nothing to bother with. Getting to the caps and identifying them would most surely involve removing the fan and therefor also warranty. (Even if they cant see I have had it removed)

I'll get in contact with Sapphire.

Thanks for the help! :)
