Hi guys,

Looking to build a new computer, originally was going to go with 9900k, but now that I have seen the AMD 2950x, wondering which is faster and better for the long term....

I don't do vid editing, neither am I a graphics designer.....

The PC will be mainly used for online streaming, watching vids/movies/general productivity work using Microsoft office, surfing internet etc....

Any advice on which should go for in terms of long term use, I'm thinking 9900k makes more sense as new tech comes out everyday...... but 16 cores 32 threads and 64 pcie lanes.... ? :D

Furthermore what would the base and boost frequency be on each core on the AMD, as intels 9900k only runs on 5.0Ghz on 2 cores from what I gather.....

Any advice, pros/cons/ application/info would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks, but I'm looking for high clock speeds, intels 9900k has 3.6Ghz - 5.00Ghz as appose to 3.2Ghz and 4.1. But yeah massive price difference!!

Agree with above- 9900k seems massive overkill given what your use case is . One of the cheaper Ryzens would seem a better bet

Ok. Please, refer to the following list:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,478.46 (includes shipping: £10.50)

Yes, sometimes people drive a Ferrari or Lamborghini just because they can...

Got My Bugatti Chiron on order :P

Hmm.... Think I will stick to the 9900k, yes maybe overkill but i'm planning on keeping it for over 10 years! :) Guess what i'm running at the moment? Intels Q6600!!!! :D Was bought in 2007...... yooooooo!!!!!!! lol

I am sorry to hear it
We don't know if that will be sufficient in 5 years, let alone 10 years. I would advise you not to throw your money away or at least if you go this way, take the AMD path.
You will have free upgrade path for the future generations.

If not, just wait a few months for Ryzen 3000 series!

||For me it is an overpriced garbarge manufactured by a greedy company. Which forgot to remove the iGPU from it...

Overpriced, I some what agree with. Garbage, not a chance. Greedy company, that's just every company... and its usually pressure from shareholders, etc. rather than greed for the sake of greed.

Go with the 2950X then. It's going to hold out over time.
