Hey all, 2 quick questions:

1: Is it worth the 175 quid? This PC is primarily used for gaming, and currently has a x64 3700+ fitted. If no, any other suggestions for socket 939?
2: Is the 64 X2 compatible with any socket 939 mobo? Specifically the DFI LAN Party............

I forgot the model of my mobo, I'm gonna have to dig out the manual to find out >_> It was DFI's first ATI crossfire board if I remember rightly.

I am not looking for a complete upgrade here - would prefer to keep the mobo untouched since the high-spec ones are a bit pricey to go swapping every time I want a new CPU :P

well.

i had a amd 3200 939 and then i got a amd 4400x2 about a week befor conroe was releised

and iv regreted it since cause x2 939 is just gone now its considered as a "old" socket a bit like the 754.

i remember when i had 754 and i got my amd 3200 939 and i was so happy lol.

but personally dont go for it unless your not going to be upgrading for ages, cause that price for a 939 isnt worth it, save money and go conroe E6300 then overclock it to about 3ghz or the speed you feel happy with.

im getting a E6600 at xmas

Use CPU-Z (here) to get that kind of info & more. But, I'm sure that all Socket 939 mobos can taker X2's (old ones, after a simple BIOS update).

Getting a X2 4600+ myself, coming from a more than 1-yr old 64 3000+ :o Dual-Core is the way to go IMHO. Socket 939 CPUs have become very rare & or expensive, so I'd say go for it!

Well I've popped an X2 4400 in the first gigabyte SLi board (GA-K8N-SLi?) with and ancient BIOS

Booted fine just didn't report it correctly until a BIOS update.

Also put one in a Lanparty SLi-DR with an old BIOS which did the same.

The machine with the gigabyte board went from a 3200+ whilst the DFI machines from a 3700+

Very happy with both.

i jumped from an opteron146 CABGE to an x2 3800+ and it runs at the same speed as my opteron overclocked and is quicker, and it only cost me £80, so i'd recommend, it'll last for a while yet

Hi

I just bought an X2 4600 from mm, because if i left any longer i thought i may not be able to get one. This would mean upgrading everything and dont have the money in the run up to xmas. But must say very happy with it at present. I am hoping this will last til the middle of next year, and cant see why not. :D

Thanks for the replies everyone, I actually have CPU-Z but forgot I had it :)

Since I'm at work I can't view online stores atm, but has anyone found the 4600+ for less than £175? I understand you can't post names on the forums due to competitor rules, but just knowing what prices are out there would be useful cheers :D
