I'm about to buy this CPU to pair up with an X1800XT 512MB. Is there any other cpu i should seriously consider. I'm not likely to overclock this much - so will the standard HSF work? Also, will my socket A HSF fit this chip or can someone recommend me a nice quite CPU fan?

Sd3700 is a good chip and will OC to between 2.6-2.8 on air.
Cant use Socket A cooler, stock fan is ok but this is far better-"Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler" and its less than £20.

If you're not interested in dual core and as you won't be overclocking the 3700+ is a good choice,I have one running at 2.9ghz and its performance is excellent, for the price they are very good processors.

If you fancied a bit of overclocking though, you could save your self £30 or so and go for an opteron 144,this has essentially the same core as the 3700+ but is running at a reduced clockspeed and lower multiplier,it would be easy to attain 3700+ speeds and more than likely well beyond.

As far as an air cooler goes I'm not to sure as my stuff is watercooled so I haven't particuarly been keeping up with current air cooling products, although from what I can gather the 'Arctic cooling freezer 64 pro' is an excellent cooler and very quiet.
