Just wondered how much a single core AMD 3700 would bottleneck a decent gaming system with a 8800GTS card? In other words how much gaming performance would i gain by getting a dual core or quad core cpu over a single core in this set up?
Thanks.

Depends what it clocked at and what memory your using it with. At stock I would say it may well be.The fact it is single core isnt to important as most games are still single threaded so will only use the equivalent of one core on a dual core anyway. High latency ram (IE cas3) on the old DDR (assuming its socket 939) can cause bottlenecking in some games, with a 2GB kit with a cas2 it should be fine.

I've got a 3700 which will run stable at 3.1GHz, fails prime at 3.2. (1.4 volt vcore). I can run most games at at high or max with this. IE fear processor performance is at maximum and the framerate is smooth.
