After a few seconds then terminating the encode when trying to convert 80Gb MKV over LAN
Should this be happening and if so is there a setting to ramp back the %CPU used??
 
Encoding will always use as much CPU power as is available unless there is some feature in the application to limit this or you use a third party utility if even one exists.

Also look at the size of the file your are talking about 80Gb.

So yes sounds completely normal.
