Hi folks

Just upgraded my system from a 3000 winchester to a 4000 san diago and now have an issue with a temps.

Im running an artic cooling silentium case W/ artic 64 heatsink and fan combo on an MSI K8n NEO2 Platinum. With the 3000 winchester in the system it ran very quiet with idle temps around 38-40 degrees c but since upgrading to the 4000 sandiago the idle temps are up around 50-55 deg idle with the fans going full speed to try to cool it down. Does anyone have any ideas how i can cool this down? The wiriing arrangement in the case is not the best but im at a loss to see how the san diago can run up to 15 degrees higher.

Is this normal for the larger processors?

Cheers

Are you sure you mounted the heatsink and fan correctly? This is the most likely (And actually, the only I can think of) cause of this sort of problem.

I can confirm those temps are too high. My A64 4000+ overclocked to 3 GHz reaches 52 degrees under heavy load /w AC Freezer 64 Pro. It idles in the 35-45 range.

Dunno much about that case but does the hot air from your Freezer 64 have somewhere to go, like straight into an exhaust fan? As said above though it's probably poor thermal contact between heatsink and CPU, either due to the surfaces not being fully in contact or lack of thermal compound. If this is a cooler from a previous build you've reused, then did you use fresh thermal compound and clean off the old stuff?

:o cheers guys feel kinda stupid now... i have built quite a few systems so i guess i thought that i couldnt be the problem as i was looking for something more complicated.... but it was. ....

just reseating the heatsink has taken the temps down by 10 deg to around 42 deg at idle which i am more happy with.

thanks for your replies
