Hi guys,

Need a little clarification on this, I recently upgraded to new processor, very happy with everythign so far. What should be the default setting of the multiplier? Mine seems to jump automatically by itself, is this normal? what is the maximum temp the core should run, mine never really goes over 35 degrees.

Also can someone let me know does it support 1600 DDR3 as this is what I am using, I had to change bios settign in motherboard to allow 1600.

disable cool and quiet in bios :)

What should be the default setting of the multiplier? 15.5 and NOT 17.5 as previously posted (its what I run mine at!)

Mine seems to jump automatically by itself, is this normal? As bobby said cool n quiet. you can turn it off or just run prime when you load up CPUID

what is the maximum temp the core should run? 72 off the top of my head. 35 sounds okay at load if you are using aftermarket cooling. the cooler in th ebox is a bit gash.

Also can someone let me know does it support 1600 DDR3 as this is what I am using, I had to change bios settign in motherboard to allow 1600. Motherboard will determine this; sounds like it does though.

Cool N Quiet slows down the CPU when it does not need to be running at full speed (i.e. pretty much any time you're not running a game, video encoder or any other high requirement software). This keeps the CPU cooler (which should help prolong its life), and/or keeps the PC quieter (cos the CPU fan doesn't need to be spinning as quickly). It'll also use less energy which saves you money.

You really shouldn't be turning CnQ off, there's usually no need.

Is the mulitiplyer not the special thing that black editions have that overclock it or am I being a complete ninny? If its not where is the multipler that overclocks, not that I want to atm but would be nice to know :P lol.

Your multiplier should be at 15.5! not 17.5 as I said earlier! (therefore 200*15.5 gives your 3.1ghz processor speed).

The unlocked multiplier allows you to overclock the processor without having to overclock the rest of your system.

Overclocking is a relatively simple business but I would read a lot of articles on it before you try incase you risk doing any undue harm to your system.

Your 550 should be able to do 3.7-3.8 without any extra voltage (please don't try this with the retail heatsink though).

Is the unlocked multiplier in the bios? What sort of performance increase would you see goign from 3.1 to 3.8. I have successfully unlocked the 2 dormant cores (I just wanted to check, I closed them again after verifying that it was possible). If I was to unlock permenantly, after I bought a better cpu fan/cooler how good a processor would it be? Whats the best program for checking stability, and how long should it be run for?

You guys have a wealth of knowledge.

Thanks

I haven't used CnQ myself so I'm prepared to be corrected but assuming it works like Intel's SpeedStep then the CPU multiplier (which you increase to overclock a Black Edition CPU) is reduced automatically when the CPU is not under load. So, for example, if the CPU comes clocked at 16x then in reality it might at between 8x and 16x depending on load. If you overclocked it to 22x then it would run between 14x and 22x depending on load.

The CPU is my sig has all power saving features enabled too (tis actually running at 3.8GHz, need to update it when I can be bothered).
